Last two weeks of training - Hard

Summary:

This morning's weight: 172.8 lbs.

I still don't feel recovered from the world record 24 hour relay I participated in from 15-Oct to 19-Oct.  You can read more about that here on the blog of the run.  I ran 92 miles in 5 days, more or less.  Most of it under less than ideal circumstances.  Lack of sleep and food was the biggest hurdle. It's not like we were running, eating, sleeping and running..more like run 7 miles, wait in a car, drive an hour, wait some more, get some peanuts or almonds and gatorade, drive to an RV.  Sit in that and fall alseep for an hour...and just when you get to sleep you get nudged and somebody tells you (at 3 am) "you need to get in the car and go run again".  But it was a team effort:

This week has been particularly hard and unexpectedly so.  Here you go:;

Sunday 10/30
plan: 25 km @4:45 followed by 1500 M swim
actual: 23 km @ 5:01 followed by dinner.

1:56, 23.25 km, ran from home to Dog Beach at the end of Del Mar (north side) and back.  My left achilles tendon was so sort the entire time I was limping along. The rest of my leg muscles seemed unrecovered and sore as well and my form was suffering the entire time. I was surprised to see the 18th street lifeguard station and bathrooms torn down...so I walked into the Poseidon bar and had a glass of water..it was nice.  It was a totally beautiful day and I ran on the beach rather than up/down the hill from TP beach to Del Mar.

Saturday 10/29

Plan: 50 mile bike, run
actual: 50 mile bike, sleep

rode the 50 mile Elfin/Harmony Grove loop.  I was supposed to ride easy, so I went alone.  But you are really never alone riding that course on saturday morning. I was passed by a fast group, and just rode with them out to Escondido.   There were three fast guys and a girl.  The girl was slower than I was, one guy was about my speed, and then two really fast guys.  I dropped the first two, but had trouble keeping up with the fast guys.  I felt I had to ride hard on my new bike, and indeed it was the fastest I ever rode this course by many minutes:

Friday 10/28

So dead after yesterday's run I just did the elliptical machine in my garage for an hour....
